ひな祭り（Doll’s Day）といえば雛人形（Hina dolls）ですよね。
最近はコンパクトなものが主流ですが、海外では『クラシカルな７段飾り』が人気です。
飾りつけの仕方や、人形や家具の意味を英語で説明してみましょう。
地域やお家によっても違いがあるので、ご参考までに♡

1. 1st tier – 内裏雛: two imperial dolls
Two main dolls on the top tier represents the emperor and empress.
最上段の２つのメインの人形は、天皇と皇后を表しています。
In Kanto style, Emperor sits on our left.
関東式は、男雛は向かって左。
In Kansai, on the stage left.
関西では、ひな壇から見て左です。
Which means, the placement is up to you.
ということは、配置は自分で決めちゃって大丈夫。
Emperor holds a ritual baton and Empress holds a fan.
男雛は笏（しゃく）を持ち、女雛は檜扇（ひおうぎ）を持ちます。
Empress’s twelve-layered ceremonial robe looks gorgeous.
女雛の十二単はゴージャスです。
Golden folding screen is placed behind them, and artificial peach branches come between.
金屏風は後ろ、口花（くちはな）は間に来ます。
Two lamps stand both sides.
雪洞（ぼんぼり）は両端です。
2. 2nd tier – 三人官女: three court ladies
Three ladies-in-waiting are on the second platform.
三人官女は２段目にいます。
Each holds a sake utensil: a sake vessel, a wooden stand, and a long shaft sake vessel.
それぞれ、酒器を持っています。銚子（ちょうし）、三方（さんぽう）、長柄銚子（ながえのちょうし）。
They are serving sake.
お酒を振る舞っています。
Sometimes, middle one has black teeth with no eyebrows.
真ん中の官女がお歯黒、眉なしの時もあります。
That means, she is the married one.
それは、既婚者っていう意味。
The one with a long shaft is a hard worker, so her mouth is open.
長柄の官女は働き者なので、口が空いています。
Between them, there are two cherry blossom rice cake stands.
官女たちの間に、桜餅の高槻が２つあります。
3. 3rd tier – ５人囃子（ごにんばやし）: the five court musicians
The third tier holds the five court musicians.
３段目には太鼓や笛を演奏する５人ばやしを置きます。
Those boys are supposed to be young and good lookers.
これらの少年は、若くてイケメンの設定。
Probably the biggest boy band in their era.
多分、彼らの時代で絶大な人気を誇った男の子バンドです。
From right to left, big drum, small drum, shoulder drum, flute, and a singer.
右から、太鼓、大鼓（おおかわ）、鼓、笛、謡。
Sometimes singer has a fan.
謡い手は、扇子を持っていることも。
4. 4th tier – 隋臣（ずいじん）: the bodyguards
Two bodyguards comes on the fourth tier.
２人の隋臣（SP: 要人警護） が、４段目に来ます。
The one on the viewer’s right is older and superior.
向かって右の方が、年配者で、上の位です。
Practically, they are not ministers.
事実上、彼らは大臣ではありません。
Therefore, they often have with bows and arrows.
なので、大抵、弓と弓矢と持っています。
Between them, diamond shaped rice cake stands and food trays are arranged.
彼らの間には、菱台と、御膳が飾られます。
5. 5th tier – 仕丁（しちょう ）: three servants
On the fifth platform, three helpers are displayed.
５段目は、３人の仕丁です。
The angry one, the crying one, the laughing one,
笑い上戸、怒りんぼ、泣き上戸。
Common people, and their faces are so expressive!
一般庶民で、表情豊かです！
They are flanked by a mandarin orange tree and a cherry blossom tree.
彼らは、橘と桜の木に挟まれています。
Orange tree sets on the rightmost.
橘が、（向かって）右端です。
6. 6th tier – 婚礼家具: marriage furniture
Marriage furniture comes on the 6th and 7th row;
婚礼家具が６段目にきます。
- 箪笥（タンス）: chest of drawers
- 挟箱（はさみばこ）をのせた長持（ながもち）: storage bin on the oblong chest
- 鏡台: mirror stand
- 火鉢: brazier
- 針箱: sewing box
- 茶道具 / 台子（ダイス）: tea-making utensils.
7. 7th tier – トラベルグッズ: travel goods
- 御駕籠（かご）: court palanquin
- 重箱: tiered food boxes
- 牛車 / 御所車: ox-drawn carriage
＊ oblong の発音は、アブロン（グ）
＊ palanquin の発音は、ぺァラキーン（ヌ）
8. 飾りつけ tips
Platforms are usually covered with a red carpet with colorful stripes at the bottom.
ひな壇は、通常、裾にカラフルなストライプが入っている赤のフェルトで覆われます。
Be careful not to touch the doll faces.
人形の顔には触らない方がいいよ。
Better to set the dolls from the upper tier.
上の段から飾り始めるのがおすすめ。
When you drop a doll or accessories, you don’t have to hurt the other things on the lower platforms.
人形や小物を落とした時に、下の段のモノを傷つけないで済むから。
